Joe’s cadillac
The Cadillac is my favourite place to teach a client how to use their body and tease out their movement strategies using the original Pilates method. I hope the Cadillac/Tower/Springboard become a vital training partner for you and your clients.

Gymnastics in pilates
Saturday 8 February 1pm - 3pm
The Pilates canon has a rich history and link with gymnastics training and movements, yet many of us instructors don’t get to work this side of the coin in our bodies let alone with our clients.
I’d like to put the Pilates back into the tricks and embody JHP’s vision for this end of the work.
We will utilise preparatory work within the method as well as popular ‘compression’ drills in the gymnastics community. Within the method we will look to use original exercises with
* Parallettes (low and high)
* Guillotine
* Cadillac
* Refomer
* Wunda chair
You will be involved in developing your ‘core’ and deep hip flexing capabilities with roll overs and tendon stretch in the cross-hairs and planche training, handstands, high bridge, push up and dip variations featured heavily. Of course, you’ll enjoy a signature TMR wrist and shoulder prep session to get you in the mood and be physically pliable for the workshop.
This workshop is available for all teachers of course, however the more physically embodied participants we have, the more work we can sample and avoid fatiguing the demonstrators! Quick, get into a plank!
Springs in the pilates universe
Friday 20 June 2:30pm - 4:30pm
“F$%king outstanding workshop. You are an amazing presenter and I could listen ALL day. I want more!!!”
Spring loaded: understanding your tools to improve client outcomes
Metal springs are the signature resistance mechanism in our Pilates studios, they are both ubiquitous and somehow ephemeral.
It is our role to know which spring tool to select for each task to so that the resistance/assistance ratio provides feedback to our treasured clients; this is especially true now as new spring suppliers flood the market without quality assurance or regulation.
It’s not straight forward to know how ‘heavy’ springs are, we can’t really quantify their load, they act differently to the standard resistance types in a gymnasium and we can’t technically apply ‘progressive overload’. Although we have categories of spring by length or purpose, we must therefore consider how the position of the spring as well as the load plays a huge role in finding the truth of every exercise.
Let’s examine a handful of skills in the studio and find the best place to teach them …

In the past, Pilates instructors have been taught to avoid strengthening the front of the hip, to stretch at the start of every session and to use 'table-top' as a home base for conditioning…. but the world has moved on and so should we.
In this session we share our method to help your clients to get through more work and support their posture and wellbeing. Working this way also takes advantage of the system links within the original work and often leads to rapid improvement and comfort when completing fundamental and elite level exercise conditioning.

Stop saying NO to exercises and learn how we support clients with a modern approach to Osteoporosis and Osteopenia in the original work and allied care.
We will briefly take you through the updated information, point you to clever resources and share what works for our clients beyond saying no, but actually saying yes and building a healthy and happy mover.

Nowhere to hide: Wunda chair edition
Too often, we as instructors end up using the Wunda chair for three or four basic exercises as an afterthought or when more substantial apparatus isn’t available. This version of the classical chair happens to be one of the best places for creating strength and lift in the body, so let’s find the grit and sweat in the detail.
This session was presented to the Movers and Shakers of Movementality in October 2024 to great acclaim. We worked with extreme detail, establishing set-ups for each movement and offered plenty of drills and deep dives into finding comfort and success on the chair.
We were thrilled with the feedback and hope you enjoy the recording!
